About…

Kirri is a multi-instrumentalist. She specialises in violin and double bass, but also plays with piano, synthesisers, accordion, field recordings and more recently cello and viola. She performs live and produces and composes music, sound art and sound design.

Theatre/Live Art 

The Mermaids Table (Feburary 2024)

Composed and recorded sound design for a theatre show in the Blue Room Theatre in Perth.

Airborne (December 2023)

Composed and recorded sound design and score for a hour long circus performance for Borderville Festival, Albury.

Forgotten Stories (September 2023)

Participated in a creative development in East Türkiye in conjunction with Dr. Görkem Açaroglu (Aus), Ex Nihilo (France) and PLACC (Hungary)

We Pay To Be Where The Party Isn’t (November 2022)

Co-wrote, performed in and composed score and sound design.

Journey.  (April, 2022)

Composed and recorded sound design and music for a sound and light installation in the Malmsbury Botanical Gardens as part of the Macedon Ranges Autumn Festival in collaboration with Thomas “Soup” Campbell and Indigenous artist Tashara Roberts.

Museum Undone with Metanoia (June 2021)

Composed sound design and music for dance, projections and installation for multiple spaces both inside and outside a regional museum, and improvised live score on multiple instruments. 

Burning Deck Theatre 2007– ongoing

Devised sound design for and with Sofia Chapman for various Burning Deck live theatre projects over the years, presented in Midsumma Festival, Melbourne Fringe at La Mama Theatre. 

Beyond the Bright Black Edge of Nowhere , 2014 and 2015 by Simon Wilkinson (UK video artist) 

Improvised  live score on violin with Daniel Marcus Clarke (UK)  on arpeggione and Simon Wilkinson on beats in a multimedia production.

Roundangle, 2004-2014

Composed sound design and improvised live for Jodie Ahrens at Roundangle for numerous projects; most notably, Deceased Estate — of which the sound design was a crucial part — won the International Arts Festival Award at the 2008 Fringe Festival, and  Fright, as part of FOLA in St Kilda in 2014, set in the rarely accessible Esplanade Vaults.

Composed and devised sound and music for a piece of touring tiny theatre.

Bandito News Flash presented by Open Studio, 2008 

Provided sound design, composition and improvised live music in an absurdist weekly news hour in a tiny venue (Open Studio)

Sad Bird Boy and Other Dreams of the City by Theatre in Decay, 2006

Provided a live improvised score to a puppet show performed in the ACMI Screen Gallery.

The Cherry Orchard directed by Kate Wild, 2004

Soundtrack devised and played live as a member of Wintership Quartet.   This critically acclaimed production was presented at 45 Downstairs.

Little Songs of the Mutilated, 2020

A game of Exquisite Corpse but with sound, played with five other artists and 

also a project under the same umbrella where multiple artists submitted works. 

Everything Reminds Me to Remember You  by Estelle Cohenny-Valiere, 2009

Created a mixture of sound and music imbedded in a sculpture installation.

Live Music:  Performs regularly with Vardos Trio,  Transylvanian Gypsy Kings, Atonal Bitch and Stargoon IV on double bass and electric bass.  Bands performed with on violin include Madam Zu Zu, Croque Monsieur, Wintership Quartet, Baba Manouche, Mystic Charmers, Sjlivovitz Orchestra, The Kurts, Pete and the Tar Gang.   Also guested with Lamplight, Grand Salvo, Bohjass and Gemma Horbury’s Deep Carpet.  

Genres span Hungarian/Romanian/Balkan Gypsy and Folk music;  Trad, Manouche and Free Jazz;  Mock-Russian Cabaret, Indi Rock, Classical, Modern Classical,  Experimental/New Music, pop and ambient.   Has played in every state of Australia, and toured in Romania, Hungary and France.
